setnetparm - utility for FreeBSD
setnetparm a highly configurable utility used to setup several networking and networking related parameters at boot time.Its primary use is to easily (re-) configure networking parameters for FreeBSD-based laptops or notebooks which are to be used in several different networking environments.
setnetparm is able to change the following parameters on the fly:
- host name
- domain name
- network interface name
- ifconfig parameters
- IP address
- subnet mask
- gateway ip address
- name server address
- shell script for custom configuration
This utility was described in detail in the article Yet another approach to the laptop multi-home problem in issue 10/2001 of the daemon news Magazine .
